Historic Mt. Dora

Our July road trip will be an overnight weekend event. Member Doug Quara has graciously invited us up to visit his new residence in Mt. Dora. Complete plans are being worked out but the tentative schedule is this:

Hotel: Lakeside Inn. Book your reservations as soon as possible. https://www.lakeside-inn.com/

Saturday afternoon we can gather at Doug’s house for lunch and hang out at Chez Quara.

Saturday night we can do dinner in Mount Dora. There are so many great places to eat there. Doug suggests at least some time for members to walk around downtown Mount Dora to see all the great sights.

Then Sunday morning we can drive to Montverde. There’s an interesting coffee shop “Coffee Shop of Horrors” that is a very fun place. It’s very low key and an enjoyable place to visit.

The nice thing about this destination is the drive between Mount Dora and Montverde. It’s very scenic with beautiful rolling hills and actual left and right turns.

On the way is a scenic overlook at a park where we could stop. After the coffee shop, we could then drive to Yalaha Bakery, a wonderful destination itself with fantastic baked goods — streusels and strudels are incredible as are the breads. This place has a Napa Valley kind of vibe to it. Many car and motorcycle clubs make it a destination on weekends.

Then club members can disburse to go home mid-Sunday morning.

Our meet up location will be the Lake Worth Service Plaza on the Florida Turnpike. Please be sure to have your Sunpass with you. We will leave at 8:00am for an arrival in Mt. Dora by 11:30am.

Please note: use the RSVP booking button here to let the group know that you’re coming along for this road trip. By signing up on the web site for this road trip, this DOES NOT guarantee you a hotel room. It’s up to you to make a reservation at the Lakeside Inn using the link above. The club is not responsible for your individual hotel reservations.

We won’t have walkie-talkie radios but we all have cell phones and many of us have Bluetooth connections in our cars. We may use Free Conference Call (712) 770-4817 Conference ID 475195 to communicate en route. Gary may hook us up with a Push to Talk app as well. We’ll hash that out some time on Saturday.
There are always many cyclists on these roads, some singles, some in large groups. In this area, bicyclists are allowed to use the entire lane. PLEASE ALWAYS BE AWARE. Many of the roads have blind turns and lots of hills and crests with little to no line of sight. Pass cyclists only where there is good line of sight.
